Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best each day at work? Not just in those special moments or exciting projects that you take on. But in the ordinary activities that take up most of your time – no matter how mundane they are.
Given researchers are finding that developing our character strengths – the things we’re good at and actually enjoy doing – can help us to feel more confident, engaged and energized at work, shouldn’t we be finding ways to draw on them no matter what the task?
I recently asked Ryan Niemiec, Director of Character Education at the VIA Institute what the latest studies were finding about how to use our strengths more effectively at work. He told me about a new intervention that aligns the tasks you perform each day as part of your job, with your top five or six character strengths to improve your engagement, productivity and happiness at work. Want to know how it works? Discover my a-ha moment from our conversation in this short video.
