The celebration aspect after the ‘anchor’ and ‘behaviour’ is still not sitting right with me. Saying an affirmation out loud like “I got this” feels strange…. does it just need practice or are there some more suggestions out there?

Great question Yvonne. I think that having played in this space for a little while I have used positive self talk as a celebration both internally and verbalised. I am also a happy dancer but it has taken time to become comfortable with it. It is now an automated response and people expect if from me.

Yes, agree it can be a little counter-culture depending on where we come from and how we have been raised.  However from a brain-based point of view, if you want the new wiring to “stick” then attention to completing the behavior is important.  I find great satisfaction moving something across to my “Ta-Da!” list once I have completed a task or a habit I’m working on automating.  I hope that helps.

Yvonne, I understand where you are coming from, as it can be awkward to celebrate a behaviour.

Try to think of what your natural self-talk is when something goes right for you. Is it saying “Yesss!” or “Yuhuuu!” or “Awesome!”? Try experimenting with various celebrations until you find the one that best sits with your personality.

Personally, I find looking in the mirror and doing a short dance of joy helps 🙂

Great replies thank you Kylie, Allison and Andra! For my Monday morning I am now trying out a little “happy seated dance – saying da-da-done” as I shuffle across to tick it of my list. Starting to feel a bit more natural. I have put it on a purple post-it on the wall behind my monitors to help remind me.

Hope you are all having a great start to the new week! 🔆
