Based on Professor Martin Seligman’s PERMAH theory of wellbeing, the Certificate is designed to be a blended learning program for people who want an immersive, evidence-based systems-oriented approach to improving wellbeing and creating positive change across their company, campus, or community.

While individuals are invited to participate on their own, we encourage workplace or community teams to take this program together as a train-the-trainer strategy giving you all the resources, tools, and support you need to create a collective positive impact.

Designed specifically for Antelope Valley business leaders, school officials, mental, physical, or emotional health practitioners, and community members – our Certificate In Applied Positive Psychology (CAPP) gives you all the resources, tools, and support you need to help our region to heal.

Delivered over six months with 150 hours of evidence-based learning, the Certificate includes face-to-face training classes and virtual coaching calls to with our highly sought-after team of positive psychology and wellbeing researchers and practitioners.

Anyone living and/or working in the Antelope Valley is eligible to apply for a scholarship to the Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology (CAPP) class. This program is offered through the City of Palmdale’s Leadership Antelope Valley initiative, a project of Palmdale Cares.

Not at all. We’ll support you in the discovery of your personal application, and coach you in creating an impact project at the end of the course.
Onsite sessions are scheduled to meet full days (9-5 with an hour for lunch) on Thursdays and half days (9-12:30 on Fridays) monthly:

  • September 14-15 (No onsite in October or November – Participants will be working on their Impact Projects)

You are also expected to be available some Wednesday eves from 7-8:30 pm for coaching calls.

Our class will meet in a meeting room at Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center 3850 East Avenue S, Palmdale.
You’ll be provided with 30-45 minutes of video content, or podcasts, and some reading in advance of the session. Then, we’ll jump on Zoom Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm PST and review the content outlined for that lesson and participate in activities that bring it alive.
1. A computer (laptop or desktop), tablet, or smartphone. 2. A reliable internet connection. 3. A web browser (like Firefox, Safari, or Chrome). We’ll send you clear instructions for joining the workshops in our reminder emails.
You are invited to apply for a full or partial scholarship from the City of Palmdale. Scholarships are awarded based on need and clarity on where and how you can have impact a part of our Antelope Valley community where you have influence. This could be your workplace, school, or neighborhood. More partial scholarships are awarded than full ones in an attempt to have shared accountability between individual participants, their employers or other sponsoring agencies, and the City.
Participants are expected to complete pre-work, attend the live training classes and virtual coaching sessions, complete reflection prompts and a PERMAH Quiz on the learning portal, and participate in the pay-it-forward challenges and impact project at the end of the class. The impact project asks you to apply something you learned in the program by teaching it to a group of your choosing.
Not to worry – we have your back. Everything is video recorded, so you can catch up as you need. If you have burning questions, you can submit them on the special class membership site, to which you’ll have an all-access pass, or come to a coaching call at any time.
The cohort will have up to 50 participants. Don’t worry – the group will be the perfect size so everyone’s questions can be heard and answered, and so that you get as much value as possible.
A lot! Your teacher’s priority is your learning and development, and they will work generously to help you as you need or want coaching.
