My name is Michelle McQuaid, and these days I’m a best-selling author, workplace wellbeing teacher and playful change activator. I help people find the confidence, energy and happiness to consistently thrive.
Many of you know my public story: Back in 2007, I was struggling at work and feeling really stuck and helpless. Then I discovered positive psychology, got my Master’s Degree with the field’s founder, Martin Seligman, and ended up launching my own business at MichelleMcQuaid.com in 2012.
When I’m telling my backstory, that’s usually the point where I put my hands up in the air, figuratively speaking, and say, “TA-DA!” But just between you and me, let me tell you what happened next…
I walked into real life.
Some of my workshops went really well, but others didn’t land quite the way I had planned. I had a number of great online moments as I started my website, but I also had a bunch of, “Oh sh*t. What am I going to do now?” moments like when I launched my first online course and a grand total of three people signed up.
And six months after I started, I found myself almost bankrupt.
Living my dream turned out to be a lot harder than it looked. But with a large dose of grit, plenty of practice for my growth mindset, and the reassurance of returning to my strengths day after day, today I’ve written two best-selling books, have a list with over 90,000 email subscribers, and I run a six-figure business that continues to grow. And at the same time, I manage to maintain my wellbeing every day.
I know your dream is to build a successful business, too – and that’s exactly why I’ve created this online program to give you the insider information, practical tools, and scalable systems you need to do just that.
What We Wish We’d Known is an online training program that teaches you how to use positive psychology practices to build your own thriving positive psychology business.
In this program, I get real – authentically and sometimes painfully real – about all the experiences I had as I was launching and growing my business. That means all the things that didn’t go to plan, the times I heard crickets when I published something new on my site, and all the heartaches and disappointment I experienced along the way.
I also talk about how I managed to pick myself up after those experiences, and kept moving forward – and how I started putting all the pieces together to build a consistently thriving business.
I’m making all that advice available to you, in this affordable, one-of-a-kind online program.

“Without ever making me feel stupid, Michelle’s training challenged my beliefs, showed me what I was capable of and helped me to make significant changes in my life. As a result, I got the promotion I longed for, lost weight and became a better colleague, wife and step-mother. I’m so happy Michelle came into my life.”
“What I have always liked the most about Michelle – she is who she says she is, and she tries to practice what she preaches. Since working with her I’ve learnt a huge amount about my strengths, what I’m passionate about, what the world has to look like for me to be in a good place, and how to go about building a senior leadership career actually getting these things. I’d recommend working with Michelle to anyone looking to find a way to make professional career work as part of a life, and hold onto some of your sanity in the process!”
“It was a very pivotal moment in my career. I was plagued with the constant belief that I wasn’t good enough. But instead of trying to fix what was broken (e.g. my weaknesses), I learned to put my time, my energy and my efforts into things that I’m actually good at. Since that time, I have changed what I’m doing at my work so my role is more in line with strengths. I’m so much happier. I’m more optimistic. And I have a very different level of confidence than before.”
I’ve got a secret technique for writing compelling blog posts: I use a template! You’ll get the simple, easy-to-use template I use to write blog posts for my own blog, and to create articles for major sites like Huffington Post, Forbes, and The Harvard Business Review.
You’ll get the exact template I use when I’m creating positive psychology workshops for companies, schools, and organizations all over the world to make it easier to create your own presentations.
Want to be seen online alongside people like Martin Seligman, Sonja Luybomirsky, Angela Duckworth, Barbara Fredrickson, and David Cooperrider? When you join us for What We Wish We’d Known, we’ll either feature your business on our “Making Positive Psychology Work” podcast, or we’ll promote you on our social media channels.
"Early in my venture into consulting I sought to engage Michelle as a professional coach. I was confident that I had the capacity to add value to organizations, but increasingly realized that I was missing skills and knowledge necessary to convert that into a successful consultancy. Very quickly Michelle honed in on the intersection of my skills and my passion, which has become the ‘price of admission’ for any activities I have subsequently undertaken. This clarity continues to guide our discussions, as Michelle helps me to develop and analyze my evolving business model."
“Michelle was incredibly helpful at helping me map out a plan of practical steps that I could take to reach my goals, and fit those steps into my already-hectic life. Figuring out how to practically apply positive psychology is one of her specialties. She helps you take away excuses, and gives you a variety of different ways to optimize your chances of success and achieve everything you want.”
“Michelle taught me how to take care of my own wellbeing first, helping me build a new foundation of habits and getting me comfortable saying ‘no’ more often, so I could make room in my life for the things I value most. Now I’m really enjoying teaching my children and work colleagues how to develop their strengths, and I’m about to embark upon a Masters in Positive Psychology.”
We’re sure you’re going to find What We Wish We’d Known enormously valuable – and we’re willing to back it up with a hassle-free guarantee!
